How it Works
Our process is designed to suit the needs of your family. Each meeting is designed to be a working meeting to accomplish as much as possible with fewer visits to our office
Step 1: Contact our office
Call our office at 704-896-0906 or email us at [email protected] to get started.
Step 2: Prepare for your first working meeting
Prior to scheduling your appointment, you will receive a packet with an estate planning questionnaire and other important information that you will want to review and complete prior to your initial planning meeting. We must have your Questionnaire returned to our office at least 5 days prior to your Session either by mail, fax or electronic mail in order to schedule your Session. This ensures that Kelly has time to review your information and prepare for your meeting. Feel free to call the office at any time if you need assistance completing your worksheet or have any questions at all.
If you have existing estate planning documents, please make sure that we have your existing documents in our office at least a week before your meeting so that we can review them prior to meeting with you.
Step 3: Attend your Initial Consultation and Planning Meeting
Contact our office to schedule your planning meeting. On the day of your meeting, please expect to spend around an hour with Kelly. That meeting will serve a number of purposes:
First, we will review your current plan (or the State's plan for you) to see how things stand and educate you about what would happen if nothing were to change under the law. As we look at the current plan, we can discuss what you do not like under the current plan, and what you might like to change. We will also look at what does work about the current plan to ensure it continues to work.
Second, if you determine that there are things about the current plan that you would like to change, we will develop your new plan based on your circumstances, your preferences, and your goals. It will be a real working meeting that we will use to develop the plan itself. If you don't have all the answers at that meeting, we will allow you time to make decisions and/or changes before finalizing your plan
Step 4: Execute your Plan
You will either come to our office for signing, or we will be happy to send your completed documents to you for execution at your convenience. All you need is a notary public and two disinterested witnesses to validate your estate plan.
Step 5: Take your Plan Home and Implement
Once your plan is executed, keep it in a safe place (but not a safety deposit box) with your other important documents. Let your agents know where to find your documents if necessary and/or give them copies. If you have chosen a probate protection plan, we will provide you with a funding guide to help you make sure that you complete every task necessary to implement your plan. If at any time you have questions or can't seem to get it all done, you can let us know and we will help you or do it for you.
Step 6: Keep your Plan Updated
After your plan has been fully implemented, the maintenance phase will begin. At no additional charge, we are happy review your plan at least every three years and keep you informed about changes in the law and about other issues that affect your family and your wealth. Simply provide us with an updated estate planning worksheet and we will do the rest. If anything changes during that time, just contact us and we will help you determine what steps you need to take. We want to make sure that your plan works and continues to work over time, so don't ever hesitate to contact us.
